Does D-Ribose stimulate Candida growth? D-ribose is naturally made in the human body and works entirely differently than glucose and fructose. D-ribose is a pentose, having five carbon molecules, while organisms typically use 6-carbon atom sugars, such as glucose and fructose, for energy production. D-ribose does not go into the citric acid cycle in the cell's mitochondria to recycle ATP (energy), as glucose and fructose do. Instead, it enters an entirely different metabolic pathway, which results in the production of new ATP. Candida appears unable to ferment D-Ribose, so it would not be able to use D-Ribose for energy production, making it extremely unlikely to stimulate Candida growth.
D-ribose is a component of RNA and DNA, which is necessary to regulate genes. It is a precursor to ATP that can boost mitochondrial function, improve sleep and mental clarity, increase cellular energy storage, break up biofilms, and lower blood sugar levels. It can improve symptoms of CFS, fibromyalgia, and inflammatory bowel disease, increase endurance, improve heart function, reduce pain, and improve quality of life. Additionally, the dose in the product is approximately 1/200th to 1/600th of typical doses used, making it further unlikely to stimulate Candida growth.
